Today we hiked into the Blood Mountain Wilderness  (I can only imagine the terrifying story behind that name).

The trail passed across  a road and parking lot high in the mountains.  A bunch of day hikers were out to hike to Preachers ledge ( I think that is what its called). We passed by, and it was a great lookout point. One of the few that wasn’t obstructed  by trees.

On the way up, we found out you should never trust a six year old that says the to of the mountain is “just a little bit further”..

We came down the mountain and camped at a nice spot near a creek that other hikers had left a good fire pit behind. We had cell signal for a bit, but you literally had to stand on one particular rock by the fire pit.

After it got dark, we started hearing owls in the distance and had  several animals running through the woods.  Not sure what they were, our best guess was deer or coyotes.

Tomorrow we hike about 7 miles to Neel’s gap to resupply and mail back gear that we realized we didn’t need and is just adding to pack weight.
