Today was a sad day, we had to give one of our party back to his family.  Had a great time though with him though. Now we are down to a party of four.

We left Neel’s Gap, passing through the outfitter.  It’s the only building the AT passes through.

We had a relatively easy day today, climbing for about 11 miles.  It was a gradual slope that was more than welcome after Blood Mountain. The first half of the hike was super foggy, at times you couldn’t see more than 10 feet away.

It cleared for a bit though, and we got to see a couple nice views of the mountains in the distance.

Ended the evening camping at low gap. As soon as it got dark, the fog rolled back in. Made it really hard to see, headlamps don’t have fog light setting! At one point i just stopped walking, and when the band of fog cleared, I found that another step would have walked me right into a tree.

We are supposed to have a pretty flat section of trail tomorrow, looking forward to the break away from long ascents and short steep declines.
