Had another foggy start to our day.

We planned on a short 10 mile day to the Deep Gap shelter in order to get ahead of a thunder storm and set us up for a short 5 mile day tomorrow into town to resupply. The trail wasn’t too bad, aside from the long trek up and down Trey Mountain.

We stopped for water at a spring near the trail. I had a water bottle that I cut the bottom off to scoop water with.  Doug had the great idea to dig into the spring and jam the bottle in. It turned the spring into a faucet, allowing us to fill our bottles faster.

Later, we all made it to the shelter and had a mini feast of all the extra food we had, to lighten the load prior to getting into town tomorrow.

After dinner I was going through my pack and found a half eaten protein bar. The first half was pretty nasty, so I threw it towards the woods.  But somehow it bounced off of a tree and landed right near my hammock. Earlier in the day, we had read about several bear sightings near the shelter over the last couple weeks, so everyone came over to help find it.

There were too many leaves though and we couldn’t find it.  So I settled for using a stick to brush all the leaves out from under my hammock at least now the bear won’t come in and get tangled in the hammock. Hopefully I’ll avoid being a bear piñata for another night!

We ended the night with another great campfire. Looking forward to getting back in town and doing some laundry and getting some real food to eat.
