Day 107: 7/9/21

by | Jul 19, 2021 | Pacific Crest Trail | 4 comments

This morning I woke up and left camp fairly early. I would not reach water until I was almost at camp tonight. I began my morning hiking along a ridge.

In between the trees, I could occasionally catch a glimpse of Mount Shasta.

After several miles the trail ran near an old logging road. There were reports that the road was a shortcut with fantastic views of Mount Shasta and Castle Crags. The road did not disappoint!

Later in the morning, I had to bushwhack a short distance from the road back to the PCT. The trail ran through the woods the rest of the morning. Eventually, I passed the 1,500 mile marker!

Shortly afterwards, I entered Castle Crags State Park.

I hiked only a little further to the Sacramento River. I spent time relaxing under the bridge the rest of the day and even got to watch the sun set!

Thank you to everyone who followed our blog! We’re so happy we could share our journey with you. Of course, we’re very sad to be leaving the trail but are looking forward to the day we can come back and resume our hike. We hope you enjoyed this chapter of our blog!

I have enjoyed your blog and thank you for taking me on your adventure. I applaud you for making a difficult decision, but one that is correct for you and your family. Take care.

Sorry to hear that you two are postponing the second half of this fantastic journey, but seems you did so for the right reasons. The PCT will always be here.

Your blog was a ton of fun to follow virtually. It not only inspired several future section hikes, but compels me to have more of a Trail Angel mentality on the everyday paths. Thank you.
